To select the 109 films that form the Brazilian section of the Festival from the rich and complex universe of 711 Brazilian short films from 26 states submitted this year, we have brought together people with different life histories, film tastes and professional fields in the national film scene. We have also embraced the valuable look of university students who took part in the selection process activities.
Together, they watched about 10 thousand minutes of movies, and the result of this work can be seen in this journey through Brazilian plurality, represented in the ten programs of the Brazilian Showcase, five of Sao Paulo Panorama and four of the Students’ Showcase, in addition to the Brazilian films selected for our Special Programs (see page 88). Also included in the Brazilian Programs, there are two exhibitions of audiovisual production workshops: the results of the 2017-18 season of the Kinoforum Workshops and a collection of works of similar projects spread throughout Brazil.
After the screenings, the filmmakers talk to the audience about their works - we hope that these debates not only spark reflections on the current events and the participation of the short film in this discussion, but also serve as a encouragement for new works.
